Clean Eating Diet – Begins – Let’s go!

“Alright Nancy – school/work is done for the year…are there any more excuses?” The answer is “NO” Ok let’s decide which diet to choose?  “Eenie meenie minee mo” and I will settle on the ‘EAT-CLEAN DIET’ this book is written by Tosca Reno – “Yes, this is where I will take my starting point.” Well I must say, I really do need to lose a little weight….ok….quite a bit of weight – 20 to 30 pounds would be great.  I happen to agree with Tosca Reno and I, also want to live a healthy life and enjoy lots of precious time with my husband, children and grandchildren!

“Yikes! How will I be able to follow this diet and honestly eat 6 times every day???” Tosca says that she too, had trouble with this concept and how was it still possible to loose weight when you eat so often every day. She goes on to confess that she never felt hungry on this diet and she did not experience any hunger pangs – now that idea sounds fabulous to me! I am looking through her book – ‘The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook’ and plan to follow the guidelines, quantities and the best times to eat throughout each day, all of which is set out in this book.

“OK – Tosca, Let’s go!” I want to eat healthy and nutritious meals and learn how to put together healthy snack and meal choices – every single day! I no longer want to choose unhealthy and poor choices of what I put into my body. (This sounds like I am swearing an oath!)

“Oh no – there are rules in this book!” However, following these rules promises – positive healthy results! Now that sounds really really good to me. I am going to be making meals for the most part for just two people, as It’s only my husband and I living at home now…the kids are grown and live on their own. However, there will be times when I will have them over, so I will need to prepare some healthy snacks and meals for them too!

Rules:

In order to lose weight on this diet, you need to eat more! I will follow these rules in order to achieve a leaner, healthier body!

* Eat 5-6 small meals per day

* Eat every 2-3 hours

* combine lean protein and complex carbs at every meal

* drink at least 8 glasses of water per day

* never skip any meals

* pack foods to work based on a clean eating diet

* avoid processed foods, refined foods, and especially white flour and sugar

* avoid saturated and trans fats

* avoid pops and juices

* consume healthy fats (EFAs) every day

* avoid alcohol

* consume fresh fruits and vegetables

* use proper portion sizes

BREAKFAST

Porridge

1 cup steel-cut oats

1/4 cup wheat germ

Water

1/4 cup raisins

1 tsp vanilla

Pinch of cinnamon

Perhaps some unsweetened applesauce to sweeten the porridge – instead of sugar.

(Add any choice of dried fruit or some unsalted nuts to your porridge – healthy choices)

Steel Cut Oats – Directions – for one serving

1) In a saucepan bring 1 1/4 cups water to a boil

2) Stir in 1/4 cut oats

3) Reduce heat to medium and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stir occasionally or until thickened

4) Add wheat germ and raisins or/and dried fruit

5) Serve with milk, almond milk, or/and unsweetened applesauce for sweetening if desired

Thieves Cleaner

Thieves cleaner has become my only cleaner that I use now in my home.  I absolutely love it and wouldn’t go without it.   It cleans amazingly and the best part is that it is free from toxins which is very important to me.  It is formulated with Young Living’s thieves essential oil so there are no synthetic ingredients.  There are so many toxins out there it is nice to know that I can clean our home and not have to breath in any chemicals.  Plus it has a wonderful clean scent to it, including the scent of lemon essential oil to add an uplifting aroma.  Not only that, one bottle of this concentrated bottle makes up to about 130 bottles of cleaner.  One capful of cleaner to a 30 oz bottle filled with water.  Thieves cleaner can replace all your other cleaners, it is a safe alternative to all the harsh chemical cleaners out there, it is a great multi-purpose cleaner, it cleans for floors, counters, sinks, bathrooms, dishwashers and laundry and many more household items.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is a must have for your collection.  It comes in the premium starter kit. Here are 10 ways to use this amazing oil in your home.

1. Energizing: Peppermint has an energizing aroma to help you feel more uplifted. Will increase alertness and focus, helping you to concentrate more.  Inhale or diffuse.

2. Headache: Rub some peppermint with a carrier oil on your forehead, temples, and the base of your neck for relief of a headache.

3. Allergy Relief: Peppermint is effective in helping to reduce allergies.  Diffuse 2 drops peppermint oil with 2 drops with lemon essential oil and 2 drops lavender essential oil.

4.  Insect Repellent:  Insects hate peppermint. Place a drop of oil onto a cotton ball and place in areas where insects appear.  Or make a spray of 15 drops of Peppermint essential oil and 15 drops of Lemon essential oil into 14-16 oz of water and place into a glass spray bottle (citrus oils can eat plastic so be sure to use glass).  Shake well and spray!

5. Supports Digestion: Rub a few drops with a carrier oil over your stomach to relieve digestive discomfort.

6. Reduces Fevers:  Along with a drop on the forehead putting a drop on the bottoms of your feet will also help in cooling your body down. Mix with a carrier oil.

7. Cold/Cough: Diffuse 3-4 drops of peppermint for a cold or cough.  Peppermint inhaled will help reduce the symptoms of a cold and cough.

8. Nausea: Rub a few drop onto your abdomen with a carrier oil to help relieve nausea. Put a drop on your wrists if you experience motion sickness.

9. Joint and Muscle Pain: Massage a few drops with a carrier oil onto the affected area to relieve joint and muscle pain.

10. Freshen your Home: Peppermint is full of antibacterial and antiviral properties that will help to freshen your home naturally.  Diffuse in your home or add to a spray bottle for an air freshener.

There are many more ways to incorporate peppermint into your home but these will get you started.

Young Living Essential Oils – Premium Starter Kit
